English Folk Song Selections

Colette Boushell was born in Dublin and is an honours graduate of the BMus and MMus programmes at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama Dublin, and of the International Opera School of the Royal College of Music, London where she studied under Lillian Watson. During her time as a student, she won many scholarships and awards and graduated from the RCM with the McCulloch Prize for Opera.

Colette is an experienced recitalist and performer, having sung much of the popular concert repertoire in many prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Canterbury Cathedral, Händel Halle in Halle Germany, Sancta Maria Cathedral Tokyo, Aichi Arts Center Nagoya, Musashino Hall Tokyo and Izumi Concert Hall in Osaka. Her performances have also been broadcast live on RTÉ Lyric FM and on RTÉ television. Her operatic repertoire includes the title role in Cunning Little Vixen, Sandrina (La Finta Giardiniera), Titania (Midsummer Night’s Dream) for the RCM, Tina (Flight) for British Youth Opera, Gilda (Rigoletto) for Iford Arts, Berenice in Rossini’s ‘L’occasione fa il Ladro’ for Opera Minima, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) for Glasthule Opera Dublin, Musica/Proserpina (L'Orfeo) for Silent Opera and she made her German operatic debut singing Gilda for Opera Classica in Schloss Braunfels. She also created the role of Mary Lovell in Oliver Rudland's acclaimed opera 'Pincher Martin'. Most recently Colette made her Bulgarian debut singing Mahler 8 at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia under Emil Tabakov and the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra.

In addition to her singing career, Colette has worked extensively as a singing and piano teacher, as well as a choral conductor. She was Assistant to the Director of Music at St. Mary's Church Wimbledon, and Director of the West Barnes Singers, a choral society in Southwest London. Last year, Colette relocated to Northumberland with her husband and daughter. She continues her work as a freelance soprano and organist, and most recently, has become a member of staff for the Northumberland Music Service.
