About the event
Programme
Claude Debussy ‘Image book 1’ consists of three movements, ‘Reflets dans l’eau’, ‘Hommage à Rameau’, and ‘Mouvement’, composed in 1905.Â
Â
Reflets dans l’eau: The first three notes described by Debussy as ‘a little circle of water with a pebble falling into it,’ setting imagery to sound, was utilized throughout the set of Images. Here, he takes you on a magical journey of ripples in water allowing the listener to follow the imagery.
Â
‘Hommage à Ramea’  Follows (very loosely) a Baroque Sarabande as a tribute to French Baroque composer Jean-Philippe Rameau. This piano piece captures a sense of antiquity and romanticism with a hugely creative harmonic palette, so evident in the mature writings of Debussy.
