About the event
Described as ‘one of the leading lights in contemporary jazz’ Paul Edis is a natural melodist who finds the emotional resonance of every note. Rooted in the straight-ahead swinging tradition, his music has been played on the radio in the UK, US and Europe. He’s released numerous albums under his own name, including his critically acclaimed solo album ‘The Still Point of the Turning World’ (released in 2021).
In March 2020 Paul moved to London from Newcastle, just as lockdown measures were introduced with the COVID-19 Pandemic. In the following months, he spent more time than ever before developing his approach as a solo pianist, giving regular weekly live-streamed concerts, exploring a diverse repertoire whilst creating new compositions inspired by the ever changing, upside-down world around. This new music and more refined approach at the keyboard inspired Paul to record a new album in the Spring of 2021 with the backing of the London-based Lateralize label.
‘A significant new voice in British Jazz’ Brian Morton, Jazz Journal
