Steven Moore

Head of School - Percussion, Drum Kit & Piano

Steven is the percussion tutor for both Durham and Newcastle University, whilst working as president of the UK Percussive Arts Society.

In 2019 he completed his Bachelor Degree in performance, receiving a 1st class honours degree from Wolverhampton University and his Masters degree in performance in 2021 with distinction from the University of Leeds.  Inspired by the researching performance elements in Leeds, Steven now continues his research for his PhD.

Whilst following his academic career, Steven has developed his profile as a solo percussionist and has performed solo concerts and various concerto's performed over just a few years.

Michael Mather

Head of Yamaha Drum and Bass Guitar Tuition

Academically Michael began at Sunderland University where he completed his Bachelors degree in jazz, popular and commercial music.  This led him to specialise at Newcastle University in free improvisation, Hindustani classical music and avant-garde composition, where he achieved his Masters degree in Music Creative practice.

As a freelance drummer and percussionist Michael has performed with numerous bands and ensembles over his career.  His list of prestigious venues include the Royal Albert Hall and O2 Academy Newcastle.  He has performed with various artists such as L.Devine and India Arkin (HMV Records).  His band Ten Eighty Trees currently perform throughout the UK including many large music festivals.

Nilufer Atilgan

Violin & Viola Teacher

Nilufer, Glasshouse serves as a violin and viola instructor from the string instrument family. She has also been serving as a viola artist in NTO (New Tynside Orchestra), one of the leading volunteer orchestras in Newcastle since 2021. She completed her undergraduate studies at Trakya University State Conservatory in 2006, followed by obtaining her master's degree. During her years studying at the conservatory in Turkey and until she came to England, she has founded numerous orchestras and musical ensembles both domestically and internationally. In 2021, she completed her doctoral studies with a thesis titled "Examining the Performance Anxiety States of Viola Performers." She continues her career through private lessons, teaching, and performing as a instrumentalist.

Joel Henderson-Bell

Drum Kit Teacher

Joel began music at a young age and by seventeen he had achieved Grade 8 on Drum Kit, Tuned Percussion and Snare Drum alongside Grade 5 music theory.  Joel continues his academic development at Newcastle university whilst performing and teaching. 

 

As a performer, Joel is a percussionist with championship section 'Easington Colliery Brass Band' who recently performed at the Albert Hall.  He has performed in theatre productions and various ensembles and orchestra's across the North East.  As a drum kit player he has performed with several bands in national venues and festivals.

Keith Robinson

Woodwind Teacher - Clarinet, Flute & Saxophone

Keith completed his Graduate Diploma in ‘Jazz, Pop and Commercial Music’ at Newcastle College, where he achieved a First Class with Distinction.  Since then, for more than 25 years, he has been teaching in schools and colleges of further education across the region, providing coaching for students of all ages.Keith was a founder member of the jazz saxophone quartet, Saxophonics, and his sextet Alter Ego, enjoying performances at venues and festivals around the North East region, including Sage Gateshead International Jazz Festival. He was the musical director and lead saxophone for the Customs House Community Big Band for many years. Currently, he is a member of vintage swing outfit ‘The House of the Black Gardenia’ and ‘Strictly Smokin’ Big Band’, sharing the stage with nationally acclaimed artists including Anthony Strong, Hailey Tuck, Mike Lovatt, Claire Martin, Polly Gibbons, and Matt Ford.
